Christian Louboutin hopes judge agrees that others cannot duplicate his red soled, high heeled shoes

Christian Louboutin shoes have a very distinctive style: very high heels with shiny red soles.  Since he opened his first boutique in Paris in 1991, his shoes have had red-laquered soles, and many cost more than $1,000 a pair.  Now Mr. Louboutin is suing Yves Saint Laurent in Manhattan federal court for copying his signature look.  His lawyers argue that Yves Saint Laurent’s use of red soles will confuse consumers and harm their brand.  David Bernstein, lawyer for Yves Saint Laurent, countered that his client has been using red soles for decades and its use would not harm Louboutin.  U.S. District Court Judge Victor Marrero has not yet ruled on Louboutin’s request.
